Getting Started on the Right Track

Did You Know?

Did you know that the equals sign dictates that both sides of an equation must be identical?  Keep in mind that the equals sign must always be true/valid and thus the value that goes in a variable is that which makes the equals sign valid.

For example, if we have:

3 + X = 7

What must “X” be to keep, or make the equals sign valid?  In order for both side to be identical, “X” must be “4” and with “X” being four, both sides are the same, i.e., seven.
